The Right Skincare for Your Skin Type (and Why It Matters More Than You Think)

It’s tempting to think of skincare as something you “add on” after your treatments — but at Platinum Cosmetics, we see it as the foundation.

Without the right skincare routine at home, even the best treatments won’t reach their full potential.

Here’s how we help you build a routine that supports your results, based on your skin type.

For Dry or Sensitive Skin

Focus: Hydration, barrier repair, calming

We recommend:

  • Gentle, low-foaming cleansers

  • Ceramide-rich moisturisers

  • Niacinamide and panthenol for barrier support

  • A hydrating SPF 50 (yes, every day)

Skip: Harsh exfoliants, alcohol-based products, and anything that leaves your skin tight or tingly.

Why it matters: Dry and sensitive skin is often more prone to post-treatment irritation. Supporting your barrier helps you recover faster and maintain glow.

For Oily or Acne-Prone Skin

Focus: Oil control, unclogging pores, calming inflammation

We recommend:

  • Salicylic acid or lactic acid cleansers

  • Lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturisers

  • Niacinamide for oil balance

  • Mandelic or glycolic acid serums (as advised)

Skip: Over-washing or “stripping” products that make your skin feel squeaky. These can lead to rebound oiliness.

Why it matters: This skin type responds well to laser and facial treatments — but only if inflammation is under control.

For Pigmentation-Prone Skin

Focus: Brightening, even tone, UV protection

We recommend:

  • Vitamin C serum (stabilised, low-irritant formulas)

  • Niacinamide

  • SPF 50 — every day, without fail

  • Gentle exfoliants (e.g., lactic or mandelic acid)

Skip: Fragrance, essential oils, or heavy scrubs that may trigger pigmentation.

Why it matters: Pigment responds well to laser and skin rejuvenation — but without pigment-blocking skincare, results won’t last.

For Ageing or Fine Lines

Focus: Collagen support, hydration, antioxidant protection

We recommend:

  • Retinol (or retinaldehyde for sensitive skin)

  • Peptide-rich serums

  • Hyaluronic acid

  • Vitamin C and E

  • Sunscreen, always

Skip: Over-exfoliating. Too much “active” product can do more harm than good.

Why it matters: Skin is more responsive to SmoothEye or collagen-boosting laser when it’s already being supported with collagen-friendly skincare.
