Q&A: How Often Should I Get Laser Skin Treatments?

If you’ve experienced the results of a good laser treatment, it’s natural to wonder — how often should I do this?

Can I do too much? Is once a year enough?

At Platinum Cosmetics, we tailor every treatment plan to your skin goals, history, and tolerance. But here are some general guidelines to help you understand laser frequency and why it matters.

Laser Is a Course-Based Treatment — Not a One-Off

While you might see visible results after one session, most concerns (like pigmentation, laxity, or uneven texture) require a series of treatments to reach your goal — and ongoing maintenance to sustain it.

How Often Should You Have Laser?

Here’s what we typically recommend:

  • Skin rejuvenation or collagen boosting (e.g., Fotona 4D, SmoothEye):

Every 3–4 weeks for 3–4 sessions. Maintenance every 3–6 months.

  • Pigmentation or uneven skin tone:

Every 4 weeks for 3–6 sessions, depending on pigment depth. Maintenance 1–2 times per year.

  • Laser lip plumping (LipLase):

Every 2–3 weeks for 3–5 sessions, then top-ups as needed for events.

  • Rosacea or redness:

A series of sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart, followed by seasonal maintenance.

  • Resurfacing or scarring:

Depends on depth and area — we’ll advise during consultation. Often spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

What About “Overdoing It”?

Laser should always be performed in a way that respects your skin barrier and healing time. Too-frequent or overly aggressive laser can lead to:

  • Sensitivity and prolonged redness

  • Pigment issues (especially in warmer months)

  • Delayed healing and compromised results

That’s why we carefully monitor your response after each session and adapt the plan as needed.

Best Timing for Maintenance

If your initial course is complete and you’re happy with the result, we usually recommend:

  • 1–2 maintenance sessions per year, ideally in spring and autumn

  • Combined with the right facials and skin care to maintain results without stress

Want a Personalised Treatment Schedule?

At our Port Melbourne clinic, we’ll map out your ideal laser schedule based on:

  • Your concern and skin type

  • How quickly you’d like to see results

  • Your availability and lifestyle

  • Any upcoming events or downtime considerations

Laser is powerful — and best when it’s part of a long-term, low-stress plan.
