Fotona laser treatments

Fotona HAIRestart Hair Treatment in Port Melbourne

Hair thinning can have more than one cause. At Platinum Cosmetics, assessment comes first. Fotona HAIRestart may be considered for suitable adults with pattern-related thinning where hair follicles are still functioning.

What is HAIRestart?

HAIRestart is a non-ablative laser treatment that uses Fotona's Er:YAG laser in SMOOTH mode to deliver controlled thermal energy across the scalp. Non-ablative means it does not intentionally remove the skin's surface.

The treatment is designed to support activity around functioning hair follicles and the hair-growth cycle. It does not involve medication and may be considered alone or alongside medically recommended hair-loss care.

Who may be suitable?

HAIRestart may be considered for adult men and women with androgenetic, or pattern, hair loss. This can include areas where hairs have become progressively finer or shorter. Suitability depends on the cause and extent of thinning, the condition of the scalp and your medical history.

It is not suitable for every type of hair loss and should not be presented as a way to regenerate follicles that no longer function. A consultation helps establish whether laser treatment, medical investigation or referral is the appropriate next step.

Assessment and treatment planning

Your consultation should cover your hair-loss history, current treatments, relevant health conditions and what you hope to achieve. Bring details of any medicines and supplements you use. Do not stop prescribed treatment without advice from your treating practitioner.

If HAIRestart is appropriate, your clinician will explain the proposed course, potential benefits, limitations, risks, alternatives and costs before you decide. There is no requirement to proceed with treatment following a consultation.

What happens during treatment?

The clinician directs controlled laser pulses across the areas of scalp being treated. You may notice warmth or discomfort; tell your clinician if the sensation is uncomfortable. Protective measures and treatment settings are selected by the treating clinician.

Treatment is generally planned as a series. The number and spacing of appointments depend on your assessment and treatment plan. Hair growth takes time, so progress is reviewed over the following months rather than immediately after a session.

Results, risks and aftercare

Some research suggests that non-ablative Er:YAG laser treatment may improve hair quality in people with pattern hair loss. However, studies remain limited, some involve combined treatments, and an individual response cannot be predicted or guaranteed.

Non-ablative does not mean risk-free. Your clinician should explain possible adverse effects and factors that may make treatment unsuitable. Ask about expected scalp reactions, recovery and when to contact the clinic. Follow the individual aftercare instructions you receive.

Ongoing review or maintenance may be discussed. HAIRestart is not a permanent cure for all causes of hair thinning.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as laser hair removal?

No. HAIRestart is intended to support functioning follicles in suitable people with hair thinning. Laser hair reduction uses a different treatment approach to reduce unwanted hair.

Can it replace medical treatment?

Not automatically. Hair loss may require medical assessment, and established treatments may remain appropriate. Your clinician will discuss how laser treatment could fit into your care, if suitable.

How much will treatment cost?

Contact the clinic for current consultation fees. Treatment costs and any proposed course will be explained after assessment, before you commit.
